Getting started
The CAT  Qualification is made up of four awards from our Foundations in Accountancy exams. Each award is designed to test the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to work in accounting support roles. Where you start depends on your existing qualifications. See the chart below to see where you can start on your way to becoming CAT qualified.

Becoming a Certified Accounting Technician (CAT)
To obtain the CAT Qualification you will need to complete seven Foundations in Accountancy exams, plus two additional specialist options awards. You’ll also need to compete our Foundations in Professionalism module, and complete one year of relevant work experience.

However, depending on your existing qualifications you may be automatically exempt from some of our exams.

What are Specialist Options Awards?
Our Specialist Options Awards are the final level of the CAT Qualification where you’ll have a choice of three specialist awards – of which you will need to complete two. These include:

• FAU Foundations in Audit

• FFM Foundations in Financial Management

• FTX Foundations in Taxation

These awards can also be taken as standalone exams for those who are wanting to specialise.

Go even further… take the first steps to the ACCA Qualification!
The CAT Qualification is a stepping stone to the ACCA Qualification and becoming qualified finance professional. Once you’ve completed it, you can start our Applied Skills exams, meaning you’ll be exempt from the first 3 exams in the ACCA Qualification.
